Instagram seems to have started gaining new users at a faster rate than ever before. In its recent announcement, the company said that it has hit the milestone of 700 million active monthly users worldwide.
This has been the shortest time for addition of a hundred million users.
It took Instagram more than two years to gain its first hundred million users since its launch in October 2010. But since March 2014 when it hit the 200 million mark, the Facebook-owned service has been on a roll steadily adding a hundred million users every nine months, until last December. However, this time it took only six months for Instagram to add the same number of users.
Even though monthly active users metric does not cater to the details of the engagement or participation of the users, it is still a valid means to comprehend the reach and popularity of the service. According to Instagram, improved processes for finding friends and easy ways to sign up have made this growth possible.
