Pakistani Healthcare,a topic of controversial discussion.Pakistan does not have the Capitalistic Loop between a Health Board, Pharmacies, Insurance Companies and Doctors. Whereas this gives freedom to doctors to genuinely care for and treat patients, it also leaves open the patient to high amount of medical abuse in the hands of a doctor seeking financial gains.
‘Nightmarish’ stories of treatment with horrific endings have spread like wildfire in the digital world. So-and-so doctor scheduled a surgical procedure such as heart stents when they were not needed.
In Pakistan, the reputation of a doctor is built with the experiences he has created in regards to his patients. His reputation is not an endorsement for financial gains, or by his association to an organization or a hospital. It is by the insight with which he diagnoses, the compassion with which he cures and how much trust he generates within his patient.
Given time,a doctor in Pakistan earns for himself a reputation within the society he practices. For those who are a part of that society he is easy to name, easy to have access to, and easy to have your treatment performed in a timely manner by him.
But what if you are new? What if the city you have shifted to is where one has a limited number of friends and family? And what if we wanted to have more options in the Healthcare practitioner we would be trusting to make us healthy?
Just like google maps has made us dare to travel with the ease of a click Mydoctor.pk (now oladoc.com),creates a professional connectivity beautiful in its simplicity of concept and simple in its application. It is one of those aha-apps where one wonders why was this not thought of before.
Mydoctor.pk,creates a database for people looking for a doctor in the city they are in.This is great news for travelers and people who have an all-of a sudden-need of a doctor. Access to this listing is easy. Doctors are catergorised based on their specialization and appointments can be booked via the app.
The idea of access to listing of doctors in your city of choice isn’t a new one. Findadoctor, marham, ezpz sehat are amongst the top healthcare startups providing a listing and even fewer have the ‘book an appointment’ facility.
What makes Mydoctor.pk very promising?
Their Practice Management Module. It is what it offers to doctors that makes it the greatest app for patients. The more involved a doctor, the more dynamic the medical hub becomes.
The startup gives to doctors a Practice Management Module where it keeps a track of the appointments booked, how much was charged for consultation or services and it delivers confirmation, reminder and follow-up messages to the patient. It even maintains a medical history of the patient. This startup creates an engagement within the two communities.
The Patient and The Doctor.
A medical record is kept of the patient for the doctor and a prescription history is maintained for the patient.
The Team and the Skill Set
The team behind building Mydoctor.pk is Arif and Abid zuberi. Brothers. One is the product developer the other brings the product to the people. An interesting mesh of abilities and skill. Which perhaps explain the strength of their portal and how it evolved into more than a listing and an appointment booking portal.
One is managing the technical smoothness of the portal the other is tapping into the needs of the people.
Surprisingly it was the seasoned IT professional who felt the need of such a portal. Arif would travel back and forth from Pakistan and Finland with his family. His younger than two, child had a protein allergy. As any parent would know any disease at that age is emotionally exhausting for parents. While the allergy was identified in Finland it escalated in Pakistan. Their go-to pediatrician had changed the location of his practice and was impossible to trace. And after frantic calls to family and friends a reliable pediatrician was found. But for that particular crises, Arif would have preferred the pediatrician who had already been treating their child.
Its not just about how professional a doctor is (which is important) but it is also about the level of comfort and security one feels with that particular doctor.
A doctor you know and has been regularly conducting your check-up, builds a rapport with your family. Greets you with a smile. Wants to make you healthy. Your doctor should be easily accessible. Not only for yourself but for your family, your friends. Arif Zuberi is the CEO and Co-Founder at MyDoctor.pk (now oladoc.com) – a portal that connects patients with PMDC verified doctors besides helping doctors automate their practice and deliver a patient-first healthcare experience.
