Pakistan: the next big opportunity for the Italian markets

Stefano Pontecorvo, the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, recently spoke at a seminar in Rome (Italy) titled “Investment opportunities in Pakistan”.

He expressed the business interests of 40 Italian companies that are willing to explore opportunities in the Pakistani market.

According to the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) spokesperson, the event was attended by the Pakistani business community; a number of sectors were represented including Packaging, Agro Chemicals, Agricultural Machinery, Fertilizers, Environmental Products, Chemicals, Industrial Equipment and Machinery, Pharmaceutical Products, Foot-wear Equipment, Services, Design, Laboratory Equipment and Railway Equipment.

The PBIT CEO, Ms. Amena Cheema, addressed the Italian Business community about Pakistan’s strategic importance and said that

“There is immense potential to create joint ventures between SMEs on both sides, especially in the field of Information and Communications Technology(ICT).”

She highlighted the potential benefits of the Pakistani market to the Italian government officials, leading businesses and foreign trade agencies. It was a great occasion to present the dynamics of the growing middle class of Pakistan and the additional benefits it offers; of accessing a huge market through China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The existing trade volume between Italy and Pakistan identifies close economic ties and by setting up new initiatives and joint ventures, business activity will increase for both economies and buildup the $200 million foreign direct investment (FDI) from Italy.
