VP Digital & Financial Services at Mobilink Aniqa Sandhu appeared at the GDG Islamabad Talk and shared her view on women’s participation in tech industry, and Jazz’s plans to aid consumers in utilizing the changing technology in the best way possible.
She said, “Telcos are growing. Especially when you talk about emerging market, 3G is still very new and in the next three to five years we think that 3G, 4G , 5G is going to grow exponentially. And we want to be there when the customers get from that. So we will provide services and products in addition to the data networks and voice mail.”
Answering a question from the audience regarding the competition in the telecommunication industry, she said “The competitive edge that Jazz has is that it is the market leader.” She also said that the changing technological landscape is providing opportunities to all players in the market to grow. “Everyone will grow. It is not a zero sum game because no one has a hundred percent penetration at the moment.”
Replying to a question asked about the problems in the connectivity creating hurdles in productivity even with the currently available facilities, she said, “This is so because 3G is currently at a nascent stage and as it grows, the capacity will also grow and the performance will improve.” She is also of the opinion that digital penetration is not entirely dependent on literacy, because a lot of digital platform is visual. She says that digital field will instead promote literacy when people would want to use digital platforms in better way to improve efficiency and ease.
She was speaking at the GDG event held at National Incubation Center Islamabad. NIC has a tradition of providing GDG with a platform for this event annually. This year’s theme was women in tech industry and the challenges they face in succeeding. A panel of women entrepreneurs addressed the attendees, including Founder and CEO of Perspective.pk Sana Mela, CEO of Epiphany – Social Enterprise Accelerator Samar Hassan, and Careem Global Launch Director Fatima Mazhar.
