A meal- Kit startup, Sun, which focuses on healthy recipes and organic ingredients, has just raised $9 million in series C round of funding, led by Unilever ventures, with Baseline Ventures and Founders Circle capital.
Sun Basket delivers pre-measured gluten-free and vegetarian diet recipes to customers. This product is brainchild of Chef Justine Kelly of Slanted Door. The Co-founder of Sun Basket Adam Zbar said that they have recently opened a facility that delivers 98 percent of meal kits throughout USA. This makes Sun Basket the biggest provider of organic food which supplies directly to consumers.
The boxes and bags used by Sun Basket are one hundred percent recyclable and safe. This adds to their advantage which attracting consumers who are health and environment conscious. The San Francisco based company will use funding to improve its distribution network. The company is expanding its footprint, which include delivering organic ingredients and recipes. The Sun Basket has also hired services of an investment bank to gear itself for an IPO.
